The unique flat lip of a squarebill is what makes it such a deadly bass lure. You can wind a squarebill over laydowns, riprap, or submerged weeds without getting snagged. Bites will usually come when the squarebill deflects off of cover and causes a reaction strike from bass even if they aren’t actively feeding.
